Correction Strategies for English Writing

In class today we saw these correction strategies.

1. Subject Verb Complement
  1. Watch out for double subjects, lots of the time from translating from french.
    • My brother he likes the pizza. (Mon frère il aime la pizza)
  2. Watch out for the "to" in front of verbs it doesn't belong.
    • I to jump in the school.
2. A vs. AN
  1. a and an both mean "1". Use this in your texts.
    • a before a word that begins with a consonant (a pizza, a car, a dog)
    • an before a word that begins with a vowel (an orange, an apple, an elephant)
3. He/she/it ----> "s" on verb
  1. When the subject of your sentence is he/she/it, you conjugate by putting an s at the end of your verb.
    • He likes sandwiches.
    • I love sandwiches.
    • John loves pizza.
    • My dog eats pizza.
  2. Watch out, sentences with auxiliaries have no conjugation, therefore no s.
    • He can eat pizza.
    • My dog should eat pizza.
    • He must like sandwiches.
Make sure you know how to use these correction strategies!

Project: Restaurant Mix-Up

This project is due:  October 9th.

The Great Restaurant Mix-up!

The Situation: You go to eat a nice meal at Chez Jacques, the most “chic” restaurant in Beloeil. Unfortunately your waiter is very confused and messes up the order. Create a short 2-3 minute skit to present to your class. You will be evaluated on the written text, as well as your mini presentation.

The order:

What the waiter brought:
Entré:

Entréz?
Main course:

Mayne corez???

Dessert:

Désert????

Drinks:

Dranks??

Now use this information to brainstorm a short skit demonstrating the situation. Take notes to help write your text. You need to include:

Arriving at the restaurant:

The waiter taking your order:

The waiter bringing the wrong order:

Your reactions to the waiter:

How the waiter fixed the situation:

You leaving the restaurant:
